Industry Training Requirements

The following training forms an integral part of the Oil and Gas Technical Apprentice Programme and will take place towards the end of the college phase to ensure you are ready to start your on-the-job training.

Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET)

The BOSIET will introduce you to the specific safety issues and regimes relevant to offshore installations, and to equip you with the basic emergency response knowledge and skills for travelling to and from an offshore installation by helicopter. 

The course lasts approximately 3 days and is valid for up to four years.  

Within the BOSIET training you will cover:

  • Safety Induction
  • Helicopter Safety and Escape
  • Firefighting and Self Rescue
  • Sea Survival and First Aid

Minimum Industry Safety Training (MIST)

The MIST programme will introduce you to the key safety elements required by all employees working in the oil and gas industry.  

MIST is a 2 day course covering 5 basic safety elements:

  • Major Accident Hazards
  • Workplace Hazards and Personal Safety
  • Risk Management
  • Control of Work
  • Helicopter Safety

Every person working offshore must have a medical assessment to highlight any medical conditions which may affect fitness for offshore work.  These assessments are carried out at least every 3 years depending on your age.
